# Billing

> How pay-as-you-go billing works: no upfront charges, automatic threshold billing, retries, 3-D Secure, disputes, and the non-refundable policy.

Writesure uses a **postpay, pay-as-you-go** model. You link a card — which charges nothing — leads accrue a balance as they're delivered, and we charge automatically once the balance reaches your threshold. There's no prepaid balance to top up, no minimum deposit, and no subscription fee.

## How billing works

<Steps>
  <Step title="Add a card — nothing is charged">
    Your card is saved securely by Stripe for future billing. Adding a card costs \$0 — there's no deposit and no authorization hold. (Your bank may show a temporary \$0 verification that disappears on its own.)
  </Step>

  <Step title="Leads accrue a balance">
    Each delivered lead adds its price to your running balance. No leads — no charges.
  </Step>

  <Step title="We charge at your threshold">
    When your balance reaches your billing threshold (starting at \$50), we charge your card on file for the accrued amount. You get a receipt for every charge.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Month-end sweep">
    Any remaining balance below the threshold is charged at the end of the month, so every month starts at \$0.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Frequently asked questions

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="Will I be charged when I add my card?">
    No. Adding a card charges nothing — no deposit, no hold, no fee. Your card is only charged for leads delivered to you, and only once your balance reaches your threshold or at the end of the month.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Is there a minimum deposit or monthly fee?">
    No. There's no deposit, no minimum spend, and no subscription. You only pay for the leads you receive.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="When exactly is my card charged?">
    Two triggers: when your balance reaches your threshold, and at the end of each month for any remaining balance. Example: you receive three \$18 leads on Monday. Your balance is \$54, which crosses the \$50 threshold — your card is charged \$54 and your balance resets to \$0.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="What is the billing threshold, and does it change?">
    Your threshold is the balance at which we charge your card. It starts at **\$50** and steps up over time as your account builds history: **\$50 → \$200 → \$500 → \$1,000**. A higher threshold simply means fewer, larger charges.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="How much does a lead cost?">
    Final expense leads start at a **\$17 floor**. You set a max bid per campaign, and our second-price auction usually settles below your max — so you often pay less. You never pay more than your max bid. See [Campaign basics](/campaigns) for how bidding works.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Could I get an expensive lead or too many leads at once?">
    No. You never pay more than the max bid you set, and your daily cap limits how many leads you can receive per day. You can lower either — or pause your campaign — at any time.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="What happens if a payment fails?">
    We use automatic smart retries to recover failed charges. If a charge can't be collected, your account may move to **past due** and lead delivery pauses until you update your card under **Billing**.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="My bank asked me to verify a charge (3-D Secure)">
    Some card charges require extra verification from your bank (3-D Secure / SCA). When that happens, you may be prompted to confirm the charge. Approving it keeps your account in good standing and leads flowing.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Are leads refundable?">
    No. A delivered, exclusive lead is the product, so leads are **non-refundable**. The exception is our quality policy: verified invalid leads may receive a **credit** after review (see below).
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="How are quality credits applied?">
    When an invalid lead is verified under our lead-quality policy, the credit is netted against your next charge automatically. If a credit is larger than your current balance, the remainder carries forward to future charges.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="How are disputes handled?">
    Each sold lead is backed by an evidence pack — the consumer's consent certificate, IP address, timestamp, and a recording where applicable — which we use to resolve chargebacks and disputes.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Where is my card stored?">
    Payments are processed by **Stripe**, and your card is stored securely with Stripe. Writesure never sees or stores your full card number on its own servers.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="When do I add a card?">
    After your account is approved. Linking a card doesn't charge anything — there's no upfront deposit or authorization hold. You can review or replace the card on file any time under **Billing**, as long as you don't have an outstanding balance.

<Info>
  You stay in control of spend through your **max bid** and **daily cap** on each campaign. Lower either one to slow down; pause a campaign to stop entirely.
